A heat pump uses electricity and refrigerant to move heat from one location to another. A heat pump works on a reverse Carnot thermodynamic cycle. To provide heat, a heat pump works by extracting heat from the waste air or water outside through a heat exchanger unit and transferring it to the refrigerant. The refrigerant is then compressed, which increases the temperature significantly. The refrigerant is then moved to a heat exchanger unit of the heat pump, which then passes air or water over the hot refrigerant, increasing its temperature to accommodate the application's needs.
